Review: Iomega Media Xporter 160GB Drive

xporter_blog_post.jpg

Price: $120

The Skinny:
Iomega saves some time and hassle with this gaming-console specific hard drive. Just pop all your movies, music, photos, donkey-show-clips onto this from your computer, plug it into your Xbox 360 or PS3 and you're in business.

Wii Fit Racecars Are Faster, Better Than You at Yoga

wii_fit_car_1.jpg

Wii Fit and I have an interesting relationship. Sometimes I like it because I feel like it's helping me get slightly more flexible, but sometimes I want to fire it out the window and down onto the sidewalk for reminding me that I have the physique of a panda bear with a desk job and a bum knee. But the marketing blitz for the little balance board that could is in full-effect, including Wii Fit-themed cars in both the Indy 500 and the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600. It seems like a Mario Kart Wii theme would've been more appropriate, but anything that encourages racing fans (myself somewhat included) to shake off a day full of greasy food and exhaust fumes with a little pilates is probably a step in the right direction.

6 Real Cars That Should Be In GTA IV

blog_grab_GTA.jpg

I like to think the gaming community would show a ton of respect to any car company willing to lend the likenesses of their rides to Rockstar for the GTA series, but at the same time I can understand why Ford, Chevy and the rest of the big boys don't want their precious autos being used to run drugs, pick up hookers and senselessly slaughter hapless pedestrians. But, if they were to change their minds for the next game, here's a short list of cars that would be a great fit for Liberty City.

Toyota Prius
Sure, gear heads who hate anything that gets more than 9 miles to the gallon will probably get a kick out of one of these things to the scrap yard, but the more sophisticated assholes will enjoy the irony of splattering people into a fine paste, while being kind to Mother Earth. Plus, we wouldn't want rising gas prices (yeah, it's even expensive in fantasy world) to start hindering our automotive rampages.

Review: Gateway P-172X FX Edition

The skinny:
Gateway's surprisingly affordable new rig is packing enough firepower to satisfy even the most hardcore entertainment junkies.

The good:
Get ready, there's a lot. The Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM combo are good enough that they show off how Vista is supposed to run on a capable machine. The hard drives (two 7200 RPM 160GB drive in a RAID 0 configuration) are incredibly fast and responsive, which is great for gaming and video editing. The NVIDIA GeForce Go 8800M GTS is more than enough firepower, even for gamers, and it ran Unreal Tournament III without a hitch. Unfortunately, it couldn't help the fact that I totally suck at it. The 17-inch screen looks great at 1920 x 1200, assuming that you can find enough HD content to put on it. Also, you have to give it credit for being a capable gaming machine without feeling the need to attach 65,000 neon lights all over the place. It ran exceptionally cool, enough so that you can use it on your lap without worrying about frying up your sperm like some kind of sick, reproductive stir fry.

9 Hideous Computer Cases that Uphold the Nerdy PC Gamer Stereotype

I like to think that even the hardest of the hardcore PC gamers—even the ones that feel the need to jam all of their words full of numbers and "X"s—aren't hopeless nerds. But walking into a person's house and seeing a PC case that looks like a self-contained rave can do more damage to their reputation than a pair of taped-up horn rims and a pocket protector ever could. It's one thing to cut up your case and add some custom options, but buying one of these hulking, neon beasts off the rack is unforgivable under any circumstances.

XCLIO ATX Full Tower Computing Case $109
You can't deny the importance of a good fan, but that thing looks like it would be a better fit under the Hoover Dam. At full power it cranks out "only" 32.1dB and will probably blow any tiny pet that walks in front of it clear across the room.
